How ITSA Was Born
The journey into a new academic system - especially one that’s fully online - can feel unexpectedly isolating. At Penn State World Campus, where classes happen across time zones and students are spread out across the globe, it’s easy to miss the kind of peer-to-peer connection that helps you feel grounded.
The university provides strong academic support and resources, but sometimes, what students need most is something more personal. A familiar face. A shared experience. A space where someone simply says, “I’ve been through that too.”
That’s how the International and Transfer Students Association (ITSA) was born.

Valeriia Dolhodush, Founder & President of ITSA
Valeriia Dolhodush, an international transfer student, recognized this need early in her journey. She founded ITSA with a clear purpose: to create a student-led community where international and transfer students could find connection, clarity, and a real sense of belonging. She built the foundation of the organization from the ground up, shaping its structure, purpose, and mission with the goal of making sure no student ever feels alone while navigating their transition.
As the vision took shape, other students joined. A dedicated team came together to help bring ITSA to life, contributing their ideas, energy, and heart. What began as one student’s initiative became a growing community of support, built by students who understand what it means to start fresh.
Today, ITSA offers a space for students who are looking for connection, understanding, and encouragement. It’s more than a student group. It’s a home for those finding their way in a new environment.
